Hungarian FM declared failure of European and US strategy on Ukraine
The strategy developed by Europe and the United States on Ukraine turned out to be a failure – as stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, TASS reports
According to Mr. Szijjarto, this point of view ‘goes against the liberal mainstream in Europe’, but corresponds to the opinion of the ‘global majority’.
"When we discussed the first package [of restrictions] more than two years ago, I raised the question [about what was the purpose of restrictive measures]. The answer was: ‘Peter, the goal of the sanctions is to bring Russia to its knees economically and get closer to ending the war’. Is Russia on its knees? It is far from it," the Hungarian politician stated.
Mr. Szijjarto stressed that the imposition of sanctions also failed to bring the conflict closer to an end. He stated that the European economy suffered from these restrictions, and Western European states – which are ‘very proud of getting rid of Russian energy resources’ – actually continue to buy them indirectly.
